I totally relate to this frustration. My daughter started her braces journey about six months ago, and at first, we were both obsessively checking her teeth every single day. It drove us both crazy because it felt like nothing was changing. Then one day, we went on vacation for a week and completely forgot about it—no mirrors, no close-ups, nothing. When we got back home, we were genuinely surprised by how noticeable the progress was after just stepping away for a bit.

Honestly, I think it's human nature to fixate when you're investing so much time and money into something. But the less you focus on the tiny daily shifts, the more you'll appreciate the bigger picture down the road. Maybe try distracting yourself with other dental care routines or even just hobbies you enjoy? It helped us a lot... Hang in there—it really does get easier with time.

That's a great perspective. As someone who sees patients go through this all the time, I can confirm that progress is often subtle day-to-day, but it really adds up over weeks and months. It's totally normal to feel impatient or frustrated at first—you're definitely not alone in that. Stepping back and shifting your focus elsewhere can make a huge difference. Before you know it, you'll catch yourself smiling in the mirror and realize how far you've come... Keep going, you're doing great.

Totally agree, subtle changes can be hard to notice day-to-day. Have you found any specific ways to track progress better? I've been taking weekly photos—seems tedious, but it helps me spot those tiny improvements I might otherwise miss...

Weekly photos sound like a solid idea, though I admit I'd probably forget half the time! When I had braces years ago, my dentist gave me these clear plastic molds of my teeth from the start of treatment. Every now and then, I'd pop them in just to see how far I'd come. It was oddly satisfying, even if progress felt slow day-to-day. Maybe ask your dentist if they can do something similar? Could be a neat way to track those subtle shifts...

That's a clever approach—I had something similar with my aligners. At first, I didn't think I'd notice much difference, but after a couple months, putting in that first set again was eye-opening. It felt so tight and awkward, which really drove home how much things had shifted. Honestly, without those little reference points, it's easy to get discouraged because daily changes are subtle and hard to spot. Photos definitely help too—I did monthly rather than weekly because weekly seemed like overkill for me personally (plus knowing myself, I'd slack off). But even once a month was enough to clearly see the improvements. It's funny how our brains adjust so quickly to small changes and make us think nothing's happening until we have some kind of baseline to compare against...
