Been thinking about this lately...I usually just do a quick swish of mouthwash after brushing, you know, like 10 seconds tops. But my roommate stands there swishing for like a full minute or more, staring into space like he's contemplating life's mysteries or something, lol. Got me wondering if I'm the lazy one here or if he's just being extra. Curious how long everyone else usually swishesβ€”quick rinse or full-on meditation session?

I've always stuck to the recommended 30 seconds on the bottleβ€”seems like a reasonable compromise between your quick rinse and your roommate's existential swishing session. Honestly, I used to do the quick 10-second thing too, until my dentist pointed out that mouthwash needs a bit more time to actually do its job properly. But standing there for a full minute or more? That feels excessive to me, and I doubt I'd have the patience for it every day.

Now I'm wondering, does anyone actually notice a difference in freshness or dental health when they swish longer? Or is it more about personal habit and comfort level?

Haha, same hereβ€”I used to be a quick swisher until braces forced me into better habits. Now I stick around 30-40 seconds, and honestly, my mouth does feel fresher longer. Could be placebo though...

I've wondered about the placebo thing too... but honestly, I think there's something to it. My dentist mentioned the same thing about needing at least 30 seconds for mouthwash to actually kill bacteria. I used to just swish quickly and call it good, but since I started giving it a bit more time, my gums seem healthier and less sensitive. Could just be coincidence, I guess, but it feels legit. Either way, seems like it can't hurt to spend those extra few seconds if it might actually help, right?

My dentist said the same thing about the 30-second rule, but honestly, I always lose track of time and start worrying I'm either swishing too long or not enough... kinda stresses me out, lol. Maybe I should set a timer or something.
