- Totally get what you mean about the “pokey brush boot camp”... those little brushes feel like they’re out to get you sometimes.
- I had no clue water flossers would help, but now I’m a convert. Way less angry gums.
- Swelling freaked me out too, but it calmed down after I stopped brushing like I was scrubbing a pan.
- Still learning how gentle is “gentle”—it’s harder than it sounds.
- Is it normal for the swelling to come and go? Mine seems to have good and bad days.

Honestly, I’ve wondered the same thing. My gums were super puffy for a week, then randomly looked better, then flared up again after I ate popcorn (bad idea). Is it just me, or do certain foods make it worse? Also, anyone else constantly worried they’re not cleaning enough, even with the water flosser? I feel like I’m either overdoing it or missing something...
Yeah, my gums have been all over the place since I got braces. Some days they’re barely swollen, then suddenly they puff up again, especially if I eat something crunchy or get lazy with flossing. I notice spicy or salty foods seem to make it worse too. Do you ever feel like the water flosser isn’t quite enough? I keep wondering if I’m missing spots or just irritating my gums more. It’s hard to know where the line is between cleaning well and overdoing it...
Seriously, I keep worrying I’m either not cleaning enough or just making my gums mad by poking at them too much. My orthodontist said some swelling is normal, but when they look extra puffy I totally freak out. I use a water flosser too, but sometimes it feels like it just pushes stuff around instead of getting it all out? Crunchy foods are the worst for me—like, one handful of chips and my gums are like nope. Glad I’m not the only one feeling clueless about this.
