Just stumbled across an article saying orthodontists recommend kids get checked out by age 7. Seems kinda early to me, but maybe I'm just behind the times, lol. Curious what others thinkβ€”is 7 really necessary or a bit much?

We actually took our daughter in around age 7, and I thought the same thing at firstβ€”seemed way too early. But the orthodontist explained it pretty well: at that age, they're mostly checking for big-picture stuff like jaw alignment, crowding, or bite issues. Turns out, catching some of these things early can make treatment simpler (and cheaper!) down the road. We didn't start braces right away, just monitored things for a couple years. Honestly, glad we did it earlyβ€”saved us some headaches later on.

We took our kid around 10 and it was already pricey enough... wish I'd known earlier check-ups could save some cash. Did your orthodontist mention if insurance covers those early screenings, or is that usually out-of-pocket?

Most dental plans I've seen cover at least part of the initial screening, but it really depends on your policy. Honestly though, even if it's out-of-pocket, catching issues early can save you way more down the road. Did your ortho suggest any preventive treatments at that first visit?

My dentist mentioned the same thing about early screenings, but honestly, it made me a bit anxious. Seven just seems so young to start worrying about braces and orthodontics. I get the logic behind catching things early, but sometimes I wonder if we're rushing kids into treatments they might not even need yet. Still, I suppose it's better than waiting too long and facing bigger issues later...
