How I keep track of my gum check-ups (and wonder if I'm doing it right)

I totally get you on the “being that patient” thing—honestly, I’d rather be a little paranoid than pay for a bigger problem down the line. I’ve had dentists look at me like I’m making it up, but hey, it’s my mouth and my wallet. And yeah, having gum pics in your camera roll is awkward, but if it helps you save money (and teeth), who cares? You’re doing what you gotta do.

Honestly, I do the same—except I sync everything to Google Photos and tag them by date. It’s a little weird scrolling past gum close-ups when searching for vacation pics, but it makes tracking changes way easier. Dentists have questioned me too, but I’d rather have proof than guess. It’s your health, and tech makes it so much simpler to keep tabs on stuff like this.

Haha, this is so real. I’ve got a whole album called “teeth stuff” and sometimes I forget to hide it before handing my phone to someone to show them a pet photo or something. Cue awkward explanations. But honestly, being able to flip back and see if that weird spot is actually getting worse (or if I’m just paranoid) is kind of reassuring.

I do wonder if I’m overdoing it though? My dentist raised an eyebrow when I pulled out my phone and started showing her photos from last year. She didn’t say not to, but there was definitely a “wow, you’re really into this” vibe. Still, like you said, it’s better than guessing. Plus, it’s way cheaper than extra appointments just for peace of mind.

Anyone else ever catch themselves zooming in on their own mouth and thinking, “is this normal?” Or is that just me…

I totally relate—my camera roll is like 80% mouth pics at this point. I’ve shown my dentist before, too, and got that same “are you for real?” look. But honestly, it helps me notice if something’s actually changing or if I’m just stressing. Ever tried using one of those little dental mirrors for better angles? I feel like I’m running my own check-up sometimes… probably a bit much, but hey, peace of mind, right?

Haha, same here—my phone is basically a dental diary at this point. I haven't tried a dental mirror yet, though. I just do awkward selfies with my mouth all stretched out, and half the time I can't even tell what I'm looking at. It's a little weird how normal it's starting to feel? Not sure if I'm being paranoid or just proactive... but yeah, peace of mind beats stressing over every twinge.
