Had oral surgery a few days ago (wisdom teeth, yay me 🙄) and now I'm stuck dealing with these stitches. Dentist recommended rinsing gently with salt water, but honestly, it wasn't doing much for the irritation. So I went online and saw people talking about using this antiseptic mouthwash called Peroxyl. Figured I'd give it a shot.
Been using it for two days now, and gotta say, it's actually helping quite a bit. The swelling feels less annoying, and the stitches don't feel as scratchy or tight anymore. But here's the thing—it's got this weird foamy texture that kinda freaks me out every time I swish it around. Like, am I brushing my teeth or gargling bubble bath? 😂 Plus, the taste is...um...interesting. Not terrible exactly, but definitely not minty fresh either.
Anyway, I'm curious if anyone else has tried Peroxyl after oral surgery or something similar. Did you find it helpful too, or is there something even better out there? I'm open to suggestions because honestly, these stitches can't dissolve fast enough.
Peroxyl's decent, but yeah, that foaminess is weird. I switched to diluted hydrogen peroxide from the drugstore—cheaper and does pretty much the same thing. Just don't swallow it...trust me on that one.
"Just don't swallow it...trust me on that one."
Yeah, I second this. Accidentally swallowed a tiny bit once and spent the next hour googling symptoms convinced I'd poisoned myself. 😅 But seriously, diluted hydrogen peroxide is fine if you're careful, but my dentist actually recommended warm salt water instead. It's super gentle, cheap, and surprisingly effective at keeping things clean without the weird foaminess or chemical taste. Plus, no anxiety about accidentally swallowing something sketchy.
Also, anyone else find the stitches themselves super distracting? Mine felt like tiny fishing lines poking around my gums constantly...couldn't stop messing with them with my tongue. Dentist said that's normal, but still drove me crazy for days. Hang in there—it does get better eventually.
Ugh, totally relate to the stitches thing. Mine felt like tiny whiskers poking around my gums non-stop—I kept nudging them with my tongue without even realizing it. Salt water helped a ton though, way less stressful than chemicals...hang in there, it'll ease up soon.

I remember going through that exact feeling after my wisdom teeth came out. Those stitches drove me up the wall, especially at night when I was trying to sleep—they felt even more scratchy and annoying somehow. Salt water rinses did help a bit, but like you said, they didn't really do enough to ease the irritation for me either.
I tried Peroxyl too, and yeah, the foamy texture is definitely something else. Took me a few days to get used to it. It did seem to calm the swelling down quicker, though, and made things feel cleaner overall. I agree with you about the taste—it's not awful exactly, just...weirdly medicinal? I found chilling it in the fridge beforehand made it a little less unpleasant.
Anyway, hang in there. The stitches will loosen up and dissolve soon enough, and you'll feel so relieved once they're finally gone. Until then, distractions help—I binged a lot of Netflix to get my mind off it. Hope it eases up for you soon.
