So I'm scheduled to have surgery in about two weeks, and my doc mentioned briefly about changing up my diet beforehand. She didn't really go into detail, just said to eat healthier and lighter stuff. Um...that's pretty vague, right? I'm wondering if anyone here has had experience with this kinda thing and can share what they ate or avoided leading up to their surgery.
I've heard some people say low-fat or low-carb helps, others swear by liquids only for a day or two before. Honestly, I'm a little confused. Last thing I wanna do is mess this up and end up feeling awful afterward. Also, is coffee a no-go? Because if so, I'm gonna need some serious moral support, haha.
Anyway, if you've been through this or know someone who has, I'd appreciate hearing what actually worked (or didn't) for you.
I totally get the confusion—my dentist gave me similar vague advice before my wisdom teeth removal. I ended up sticking mostly to soups, smoothies, and oatmeal a couple days before. Honestly, it helped me feel less bloated and sluggish afterward. About coffee...I cut back but didn't quit completely (couldn't handle the withdrawal headaches, lol). Maybe just ease up a bit? Did your doc mention anything about caffeine specifically?
I hear you on the coffee struggle, caffeine withdrawal headaches are no joke. But honestly, from what I've read and heard from dentists, caffeine can sometimes increase bleeding or slow healing after oral surgery. My dentist was pretty clear about cutting it out completely at least 24 hours before surgery. I know it's tough, but maybe switching to decaf or herbal tea temporarily could help ease the transition without the headaches? Just something to consider... everyone's body reacts differently though.
"maybe switching to decaf or herbal tea temporarily could help ease the transition without the headaches?"
I feel you on the herbal tea suggestion... When I had my wisdom teeth out, chamomile tea helped calm my nerves the night before. Didn't totally stop the headaches, but definitely made them more manageable. Worth a shot anyway.
When I had oral surgery, sticking to soft foods like oatmeal and soups the day before helped. Coffee-wise, I switched to decaf gradually—still had mild headaches, but nothing unbearable. Good luck with your surgery!
