Applesauce is great, but honestly, after my surgery I found cold foods like chilled yogurt or smoothies way more soothing than room temp stuff. Guess everyone's different...but maybe keep some options handy just in case your preferences shift post-op? Good luck!

That's a really good point—I've noticed patients often find colder foods soothing because they help reduce swelling and discomfort. Did anyone else find their taste preferences changed temporarily after surgery? Curious if that's common...

Yeah, I've noticed this with my kid too. Right after surgery, he suddenly wasn't into his usual favorites like yogurt or applesauce—said they tasted weirdly bland. We ended up trying smoothies and popsicles instead, and those were a big hit. Cold stuff definitely helped ease the swelling, but I think texture mattered just as much. So, yeah...good idea to have some variety on hand just in case tastes change unexpectedly.

My tastes changed quite a bit after my oral surgery too. I remember stocking up on yogurt and pudding beforehand, thinking I'd be all set, but when the time came, everything tasted off—either bland or just weirdly metallic. Smoothies were a lifesaver for me as well, especially ones with frozen bananas and berries. The cold really helped numb things down, and the sweetness seemed to mask that odd taste I was getting from other foods.

One thing I didn't expect was how much savory stuff appealed to me after a couple days. Warm broth (not hot!) and creamy soups like potato or butternut squash ended up being comforting and easy to handle. Texture definitely matters—I found anything grainy or gritty super uncomfortable at first. So yeah, having a good mix of sweet and savory options ready is probably your best bet. Hope recovery goes smoothly!

Reading this makes me feel a bit better about my upcoming surgery. I've been pretty anxious about the taste changes, especially since I'm usually picky with textures. Good tip on the savory soups—I hadn't thought much beyond sweet stuff like smoothies and applesauce. Did you find that your taste went back to normal fairly quickly, or did it linger for a while? Just trying to mentally prepare myself...
