anyone else shocked by how much a root canal costs these days?
Just got back from the dentist and um, I'm still recovering from sticker shock. They quoted me almost $1,200 for a root canal on one tooth - no crown included. Is this normal or am I getting ripped off here? Curious what others have paid recently, cause honestly, at this rate, I'm tempted to just yank the tooth out and call it a day...

Yikes, I feel your pain. Had my first-ever root canal about two months ago and went through the same sticker shock moment. My dentist quoted me around $1,100, and that didn't include the crown either. At first, I thought maybe they were overcharging or something, so I called around to a few other places just to double-check. Turns out, that's pretty much the going rate these days - at least in my area.
I seriously considered just pulling the tooth too...but then I started reading about potential issues down the line like shifting teeth or jaw problems. Honestly, it freaked me out enough to bite the bullet (no pun intended) and pay up. Still stings thinking about it though...
I totally get that anxiety. I had a similar scare recently - quoted around $1,300 without the crown. Honestly, it made me wonder if dental insurance is even worth it anymore... Did anyone find that their insurance covered a decent chunk, or was it mostly out-of-pocket? I'm starting to think I might need to shop around for better coverage next year.

Yeah, dental insurance feels like one of those coupon books you buy but never really use. Last year, my root canal was around $1,200 and insurance covered maybe half - still felt like a punch in the wallet. I joked with my dentist that at these prices, my tooth better come with Wi-Fi or something... seriously though, shopping around might not be a bad idea.
