Honestly, I was dreading the whole thing. The horror stories online had me convinced I'd be eating soup for a week and popping painkillers every few hours. But, weirdly enough, my tooth felt almost totally fine the next day—just a little sore if I poked at it (which, yeah, I did out of curiosity… probably not recommended). I stuck to the soft foods for like two days, then pretty much went back to normal.

The follow-up appointment was way less stressful than I thought. Dentist just checked the tooth, took a quick x-ray, and said everything looked good. I was so relieved not to need more work done.

Anybody else have a smoother recovery than expected? Did you get nervous about eating on that side again? Would love to hear if anyone actually had complications or if most people bounce back pretty fast.

Yeah, I was honestly shocked by how not-awful the whole thing turned out. All the stuff online made it sound like I’d be drooling on the couch for days, but my experience was super similar to yours. My jaw was a bit sore after the anesthetic wore off, but nothing crazy—felt more like I’d been chewing gum all day than anything else. The only real “pain” was that weird pressure if I tried to test out biting on that side (which, yeah, curiosity got me too).

I stuck to yogurt and mashed potatoes for a couple days just in case, but by day three I was eating pizza again. Probably not dentist-approved but hey, it worked out. The only thing that tripped me up was this irrational fear that the tooth would just... crack or something if I used it too soon. Turns out teeth are tougher than they look.

The follow-up felt almost pointless after all the anxiety leading up to it. Quick x-ray, a couple of pokes with that tiny mirror thing, and done. Dentist barely looked up from my chart before telling me everything healed perfectly.

I will say, my cousin had a rougher go—swelling and some lingering pain for like a week—but she apparently waited way too long before getting hers done. Maybe catching it early makes a difference? Or maybe we both just got lucky.

Honestly, if anyone’s reading horror stories and freaking out, you’ll probably be fine. Root canals aren’t exactly fun but they’re nowhere near as traumatic as people make them sound... at least in my book.

I totally get that fear—felt the same way after mine, but honestly, I was more worried about the bill than my tooth cracking. My insurance only covered part of it, so I really didn’t want to mess anything up and have to go back for more work (and more charges). I stuck with soft food for a few days, but like you, I was back to normal eating way sooner than I expected.

I’ve heard from a few people that waiting too long makes things worse, both pain-wise and cost-wise. I went in as soon as my dentist suggested it, and recovery was super manageable. I guess it’s one of those things where putting it off just isn’t worth it.

Root canals get a bad rap, but for me, the worst part was just stressing about how much it’d cost. Physically, it was way less dramatic than I’d imagined.

I’m right there with you—my biggest worry was accidentally doing something “wrong” and needing a redo, especially since my insurance barely covered the first round. Did anyone else get super anxious about chewing on that side again? I kept second-guessing every bite for days.

I totally get the anxiety about chewing on that side—I was convinced I’d somehow crack the tooth or mess up the filling if I wasn’t super careful. For the first week, I literally cut everything into tiny pieces and chewed sloooowly, which felt ridiculous but kind of reassuring. Honestly, it surprised me how normal things felt after just a few days. Still, every little twinge made me question if something had gone wrong. Guess it’s just hard to trust that it’s actually fixed after all that build-up.
