Just had a root canal (yay me, lol) and now gotta decide on a crown. Dentist mentioned porcelain or metal or some kinda combo thingy... honestly didn't pay much attention. Curious what most folks preferβporcelain, metal, or something else entirely?
Ugh, root canals are the worst... congrats on surviving, lol. I've had two crowns doneβone porcelain and one metal-porcelain combo thingy. Honestly, the full porcelain looks nicer (matches my teeth perfectly), but the combo one feels sturdier somehow. Maybe it's just psychological, idk.
Did your dentist mention if it's a tooth that's visible when you smile? If it's in the back, I'd probably lean toward the metal-combo option for durability. But if it's front and center, porcelain might be worth it for vanity's sake. My dentist said porcelain can chip easier, but mine's held up fine so far (knock on wood).
Either way, crowns are way less drama than the root canal itself, so you're already past the worst part. Good luck deciding!
I've got a full porcelain crown on one of my front teeth, and honestly, it's been solid for years now (fingers crossed I didn't just jinx it...). My dentist warned me about chipping too, but so far, so good. But yeah, if it's a molar, I'd probably go for the metal-combo. My friend has one of those and swears he could bite through steel cables with it, lol.
