Just got back from the dentist today, and honestly, I'm feeling pretty relieved. Had a root canal a while back (ugh, not fun) and finally got my permanent crown placed. Gotta say, it looks way better than I expected. Like, I was worried it'd look fake or something, but nope—pretty natural actually.

Anyway, dentist gave me the usual spiel about flossing carefully around it and avoiding chewing ice (who even does that??). But I'm curious if anyone else has had one for a long time and managed to keep it looking good? Any tips or tricks you figured out along the way? I'm hoping this thing lasts me forever...or at least a really long time.

Had mine about 8 years now, still looks decent. Honestly just brushing gently and flossing carefully around it does the trick. I avoid sticky candy and popcorn kernels though...paranoid they'll loosen it or something.

Interesting you've managed 8 years without much trouble. I've had mine for about 5 now, and while it's holding up fine, I do sometimes wonder if I'm being overly cautious. Do you use any special toothpaste or mouthwash to keep it shiny, or just regular brushing? My dentist recommended avoiding abrasive whitening toothpastes because they can scratch the surface over time. I've stuck to that advice but honestly haven't noticed much difference either way.

Also curious if anyone here has tried professional polishing at the dentist's office specifically for their crown—does that actually help maintain its appearance, or is it more of a marketing thing? I'm practical about these things, so if regular brushing is enough, I'd rather skip extra trips and costs...

I've had mine about 7 years now, and honestly, regular brushing seems fine. I did try a polishing session once—didn't notice much difference afterward. Maybe it's more cosmetic than practical? Curious if anyone else felt differently...

My daughter got her crown about 4 years ago after a playground accident, and we've just stuck to normal brushing and flossing. Haven't noticed any dullness or discoloration so far, so maybe simplicity is key here.
