I read somewhere recently that dental polishing—the thing they do after scraping off plaque—isn't actually necessary for dental health. Apparently, it's more cosmetic than anything else, mainly to remove stains and make teeth feel smoother. I always assumed it was a crucial part of the cleaning process, you know? Now I'm wondering if I've been paying extra for something that's mostly aesthetic. Curious if anyone else has heard this or knows more details about it...

Yeah, you're pretty much spot-on. Polishing isn't strictly necessary for dental health—it's mostly aesthetic. But honestly, removing those surface stains can help prevent plaque buildup down the line...so it's not totally pointless either.
