how frequently do you really need dental x-rays?

"Radiation exposure is minimal, but still worth considering."

Yeah, totally agree with this. My dentist jokes that I have "boringly healthy teeth" (his words, not mine), so he suggested spacing out my x-rays too. Honestly, I used to just nod along and let them zap away every year until I finally asked about it. Felt kinda silly for not questioning sooner...but hey, better late than never, right? Good on you for being proactive about it.

Same here, we spaced out my daughter's x-rays once her adult teeth came in fully. Dentist explained that cavities usually progress slowly, so annual x-rays seemed kinda excessive for us...but I guess it depends on each kid's dental history.

We spaced mine out too once my braces came off. I remember asking my orthodontist about it because it felt like every time I went in, they'd whip out the x-ray machine. He laughed and said something similarβ€”that unless there's a specific issue, yearly x-rays aren't always necessary. Made sense to me...I mean, teeth don't exactly change overnight, right? But then again, I guess if someone has a history of cavities or other issues, maybe being cautious makes sense.

I was wondering about this too because my dentist seems to love that x-ray machine a little too much, lol. Last time I asked, she said it's mostly precautionary, especially for newbies like me who panic at every toothache...better safe than sorry, I guess?

My dentist is pretty cautious too, but honestly, I get a bit anxious about frequent x-rays. I usually ask if it's absolutely necessary...sometimes they'll skip it if nothing's bothering me. Guess it depends on your dental history and comfort level.
