Haha, I totally get this!

"all I could think about was how much mess and chaos it would cause in real life..."

Honestly, DIY shows can be sneakily stressful because I start mentally calculating costs and tasks. Nature documentaries or gentle music definitely feel like safer bets for dental visits... less mental gymnastics mid-appointment.

Haha, that's funny because I actually find DIY shows weirdly calming—maybe it's the satisfaction of seeing a project finished without lifting a finger myself. But yeah, I totally get the stress factor too. Last time my kid had a checkup, they had cartoons playing overhead—great distraction for him, but it just made me wonder: does anyone else's dentist ask you what you'd prefer to watch, or is it usually just whatever's already on?

My dentist usually just has HGTV or some cooking show already playing... never asked me what I'd prefer. Is that something dentists normally do? I'm going for my first checkup soon and now I'm wondering if I should ask about it beforehand.

Interesting, I've never had a dentist ask me either. Usually, it's just whatever's already on—some home renovation show or daytime talk show. Honestly, I'm usually too nervous to even pay attention to what's playing! But now you've got me wondering... would having a choice in TV shows actually help ease dental anxiety for anyone else here? Might be worth mentioning casually when you go in, just to see their reaction.

My dentist actually does ask what I'd like to watch, but honestly... I find it doesn't really help much with anxiety. Last time, I picked some sitcom thinking it'd distract me, but I ended up barely noticing it because I was too focused on the drill noises and poking around. Maybe it's just me, but having control over the remote doesn't really ease my nerves—friendly conversation or reassurance from the dentist usually works better.
