Ever notice how veneers were invented by a Hollywood dentist?

Found out recently that veneers were actually first made for movie stars, like way back in the 1920s. Makes sense, but kinda wild, right? Anyone here had them done or know what they’re really like to live with?

I’ve got veneers on my top front teeth after years of orthodontic work. Honestly, they feel pretty natural once you get used to them. I was worried about sensitivity, but it wasn’t a big deal for me. Maintenance is a bit more involved - no biting into hard things like apples. But the confidence boost is real. Wild to think movie stars started this trend, but it makes sense given the camera close-ups.

Yeah, I’ve got veneers too - took me a couple weeks to stop feeling like they were “foreign,” but now I barely notice. I do miss just biting into a sandwich without thinking, though. Still, totally worth it for the confidence boost.

Funny, I actually found myself worrying about that at first too, but after a while I just started eating like normal again. Maybe it depends on the dentist or the type of veneers? I totally get the confidence thing - smiling in photos is so much easier now - but for me, the food part faded into the background. Sometimes I even forget they're there until someone asks about them.

I've always been curious about what it’s actually like to have veneers, so I appreciate everyone sharing their real-life stuff. The eating thing is one of the big reasons I’ve hesitated - my budget doesn’t really allow for “oops, chipped a tooth on a baguette” moments. I guess it’s reassuring to hear that most people just get used to it and go back to eating normally.

I did a consult a while back because my front teeth are super uneven (thanks, teenage me and zero interest in braces), but the price tag was kind of shocking. They quoted me around $1,200 per tooth, which would’ve been almost half my yearly rent if I’d done the four they recommended. The dentist was upfront about maintenance too - not just the initial cost, but you might have to replace them every 10-15 years if they wear down or chip. That part made me pause.

But hearing how much more confident people feel after getting veneers is tempting. I get self-conscious in photos all the time, and sometimes I catch myself hiding my teeth when I laugh. If I ever do save up for it, I’m definitely going to ask a ton of questions about food restrictions and durability first. It seems like there’s a lot that depends on the type of veneer and who does them.

For now, I’m sticking with whitening strips and hoping nobody zooms in too close on my smile during group pics… But yeah, reading these stories makes it seem less scary than I thought.
