So I finally bit the bullet (pun intended, lol) and went for a complete smile makeover. Veneers, crowns, whitening—the whole nine yards. Honestly, the results look amazing, way better than I expected. But um...it's been a couple weeks now and I'm still feeling kinda weird about it? Like, my teeth look great in photos and mirrors, but when I'm talking or eating it feels like they're not really mine yet. Almost like wearing someone else's shoes that are your size but still feel off somehow.

I dunno if it's just me being overly self-conscious or if this is normal. My dentist said it'll take some time to adjust, but I'm curious if anyone else had this sorta experience after getting major dental work done. Did you eventually get used to it or does it always feel a little strange?

I haven't had veneers or anything quite that major, but when I got a couple crowns done, it took me a good month or two to stop noticing them constantly. Like you said, they looked great, but it felt like something foreign was stuck in my mouth...kinda distracting. Eventually though, I just stopped thinking about it. I think your dentist is probably right—just give yourself some time to adjust, it's a big change after all.

I totally get what you're saying about eventually adjusting, but did you ever worry that the feeling wouldn't go away? I'm only a week into my crowns and honestly, it's driving me nuts. I keep thinking, what if this weird sensation sticks around permanently? Did you do anything specific to help yourself adjust faster, or was it just a matter of waiting it out...? Trying not to stress too much, but it's hard not to overthink it.

I completely understand the anxiety you're feeling right now—I went through something similar when I got my crowns about two years ago. However, I'd gently challenge the idea that it's purely a waiting game. While time definitely helps, I found that actively shifting my focus away from the sensation helped me adjust faster. For instance, chewing sugar-free gum (with dentist approval, of course) or sipping cold water occasionally seemed to distract my brain enough to stop fixating on the weirdness. Also, consciously reminding myself that my dentist assured me everything was structurally sound helped ease the mental loop of worry. It might sound overly simplistic, but sometimes our minds amplify sensations when we're hyper-aware of them. Give it a bit more time and try some small distractions—hopefully you'll find yourself forgetting about it sooner than you think.
