How did you get your kid to ditch the binky?

We tried the “mail it to a baby who needs it” routine, but she just asked for the tracking number.

That cracked me up—kids are way too smart for our tricks these days. I remember my niece clung to hers so long her front teeth started to angle out a bit. Dentist said it’d likely self-correct, but it still freaked us out. Did you notice any dental changes, or was she fine?

That’s gold. My kid straight up told me, “You can’t trick me, Dad, I know Amazon delivers everything.” As for dental stuff, we got lucky—no weird teeth angles, just a ton of drool for a while after. Did you guys try any of those “binky fairy” apps or techy tricks, or was it all old school negotiations?

That’s hilarious—kids are way too sharp about Amazon these days. We tried the “binky fairy” thing, but my daughter just wanted to know what the fairy did with all those pacifiers… so that backfired. In the end, we had to go old school: lots of talking, a sticker chart, and honestly, a few rough nights. I will say, our dentist warned us about possible bite issues if we waited too long, so I was kind of motivated to stick with it even when it got tough. The drool phase is real though—felt like we were mopping up for months.

Did your dentist mention exactly what kind of bite issues could happen? I get anxious about this stuff because mine always talks about “open bite” and it freaks me out. But then I hear some kids just grow out of it without problems... Is it really that urgent to stop the binky?

Yeah, my dentist brought up “open bite” too and it honestly made me super nervous. She said it can lead to speech issues or trouble chewing if it sticks around, but also admitted some kids’ bites correct themselves as they grow. I get the anxiety—orthodontics aren’t cheap, and I’d rather avoid that down the line. We started limiting binky to bedtime only, just to be safe. It’s tough, but I figured a little prevention might save us a bigger bill later.
