How long does it take for gums to feel normal after tooth removal?

Had a tooth pulled last week and here's what's been working for me so far: first couple days, ice packs and soft foods (mostly smoothies and mashed potatoes, yum). Then switched to warm saltwater rinses a few times a day. Pain's pretty much gone now, but the gum still feels kinda weird and tender. Wondering if anyone's got other tricks or tips to speed things up or make it more comfy?

Totally agree with the saltwater rinses—those are a lifesaver. One thing I found helpful when I had mine pulled was gently chewing sugar-free gum (on the opposite side, obviously). Sounds weird, but it actually helps blood flow and healing somehow...or at least that's what my dentist said. Plus, it distracts you from poking at the spot with your tongue every five seconds.

Also, watch out for crunchy or sharp foods even after you think you're healed. I made the mistake of diving into tortilla chips way too soon and instantly regretted it—felt like stepping on Lego bricks but in my mouth. Stick to softer stuff a bit longer than you think you need to.

And yeah, that tender-weird feeling sticks around for a while. For me, took about three weeks before things felt totally normal again. Hang in there—it'll pass soon enough.
