I've had similar issues with coconut oil—it just sits on top of the skin and feels heavy. Aloe vera juice sounds like a smart move. I've also tried diluting overly strong herbal extracts with witch hazel, it's soothing and cuts down the intensity nicely...might help too?
I've had the same issue with coconut oil feeling kinda greasy and heavy, especially on my kid's sensitive skin. Honestly, witch hazel makes me a bit nervous because he's reacted to new stuff before, but I did try diluting an overly strong chamomile tincture with plain aloe gel once and it seemed to calm things down nicely. It might not smell amazing, but at least it didn't irritate his skin more...
Have you tried mixing it with something lighter, like grapeseed oil or jojoba? They're usually pretty gentle and absorb faster than coconut oil. My daughter has sensitive skin too, and I found that adding just a bit of jojoba oil really helped balance out the heaviness without causing irritation. Might help tone down the smell a bit too... worth a shot maybe?
I second jojoba oil! I had a similar issue when I tried making a homemade peppermint tincture for toothache relief. Ended up way too strong and the smell was pretty overpowering. Mixing it with jojoba oil really mellowed it out and made it gentler on my gums. Grapeseed oil worked too, but jojoba seemed to absorb quicker and didn't leave that greasy feeling behind. Plus, it toned down the intense minty scent enough that I wasn't walking around smelling like toothpaste all day, lol. Definitely worth experimenting a bit—just start with small amounts so you don't dilute it too much right away.
I had a similar experience when I tried making a clove oil blend for my braces pain—ended up way too intense and numbed my whole mouth, lol. I ended up diluting it with coconut oil, which helped a lot. It toned down the strength and made it way gentler on my gums. But now I'm curious about jojoba oil...sounds like it absorbs better and doesn't leave that greasy feeling behind. Might have to give that a try next time. Thanks for the tip!
