- I’d actually love a sample menu, but I get how it could be info overload for some people.
- When I had my wisdom teeth out, I thought mac and cheese was “soft”—but the crusty top totally hurt.
- Maybe if they listed foods by texture, like “mushy,” “creamy,” “slippery,” it’d help?
- Do you think it’s more about the texture or the temperature? I always wondered if cold stuff helps or makes it worse...
Texture’s definitely a big deal, but I think temperature matters too. When I got my molars out, cold stuff felt soothing at first, but after a while, it made my gums ache. Warm (not hot!) mashed potatoes were my go-to. That mac and cheese crust is sneaky—totally been there. If someone made a “creamy foods only” list, I’d have followed it religiously. It’s wild how something that seems soft can actually be brutal after extractions...
I get what you mean about temperature, but my experience was kind of the opposite. Cold stuff (like ice cream or yogurt) actually helped with swelling and felt numbing, so I stuck with that for the first day or two. Warm foods made my mouth feel weirdly sensitive, especially if they had any seasoning. I do think texture is trickier than it seems though—rice pudding seemed soft, but those little grains got everywhere and irritated my gums. Guess everyone’s mouth reacts differently after extractions...
Funny, I actually worried about giving my kid too much cold stuff after his extractions because I read somewhere it could slow healing... but maybe that was just me being overly cautious. He hated anything even a little warm though, so we were kind of stuck. Texture was a nightmare—applesauce seemed safe, but even that managed to get stuck in the weirdest places. Honestly, I felt like every food was a gamble.

Same here. My kid was totally grossed out by the texture of mashed potatoes, but ice cream was somehow worse because it made his teeth ache. I read somewhere cold helps with swelling, but then I panicked about slowing the healing too... It’s so hard to know what’s actually best. Applesauce got stuck for us too—had to gently swish with water after every bite, which he hated. I wish there was a clearer guide for parents on this stuff.
