I totally get the worry about micro-scratches. I’ve been paranoid about that too, especially since my attachments already feel a bit rough sometimes. Switched to gel after my ortho warned me about gritty pastes, and honestly, it’s a relief not having to scrub residue out of my trays. Sometimes I miss that “clean” feeling from the gritty stuff, but yeah... not worth the risk. Better safe than sorry, right?

I get why you’d want to avoid gritty pastes, but honestly, I’ve had the opposite experience. My ortho actually said a mild, low-abrasion paste (not the super gritty stuff) is fine as long as I’m gentle. I tried switching to gel but my teeth just never felt as fresh, and my attachments got this weird buildup over time. I started using a soft brush and a creamy paste, and it’s been a nice balance—no micro-scratches so far, and my trays come out pretty clean. Maybe it’s just what works for each person?

I totally get what you mean about the buildup with gels. I see that a lot—sometimes the smoother pastes just don’t cut through the gunk, especially around attachments. If you’re gentle, a creamy low-abrasion paste plus a soft brush is usually a solid combo. The key’s really in the brushing technique more than the paste for most folks... but yeah, everyone’s mouth is different. Funny how something as simple as toothpaste texture can make such a difference, right?

Totally agree, the texture really does matter. My kiddo has braces right now and we’ve found the creamy pastes are way easier for him to use, especially for getting around those tricky attachments. I used to think any toothpaste would do, but nope... turns out, it actually makes a difference. Don’t stress too much—finding what works for you (and sticking with good brushing) is half the battle.

I get nervous about this stuff, honestly. I just started using gel toothpaste because the gritty ones make me feel like I’m scrubbing my teeth with sandpaper—ugh. The creamy ones are okay but sometimes they feel too thick? I probably overthink it, but texture totally throws me off my routine if it feels weird. Glad I’m not the only one who thinks it matters...
