Creamy pastes sometimes feel like they leave a film behind, though maybe that’s just in my head.

Not just you—I've had the same thing happen. I used to buy whatever was on sale, but with braces, the creamy stuff started feeling weirdly heavy, and yeah, filmy is exactly it. My ortho said it’s probably the extra fluoride or something that helps stick to the brackets, but I can’t say I love it.

Gritty pastes are a straight-up NO for me now. I used to think they were “extra clean,” but those little bits get stuck in the wires and then I’m flossing for half an hour... no thanks. My budget took a hit with all the extra floss picks and water flossers I’ve had to buy, honestly.

Gel toothpaste felt like a splurge at first, but I switched when my gums started getting sore every time I brushed. The gel’s not as harsh, and it rinses off cleaner—no weird after-feel. Only downside: some of the budget gels taste like straight-up chemicals. If I find one on sale that doesn’t make me gag, I stock up.

Flavor-wise, totally get what you mean about taste buds changing. Used to love cinnamon too, now even mint is iffy unless it’s super mild. Anything “icy” just burns. I’ve ended up with the plainest possible mint or even unflavored kids’ gel (judge away, but it works and it was two-for-one).

I know everyone raves about whitening toothpaste but honestly, anything “whitening” just makes my mouth feel raw these days. Maybe it’s all the extra brushing with braces? Anyway, I’m definitely team gel now—even if it means scouring the clearance aisle for deals.

I had that exact same transition—creamy pastes just left my mouth feeling… coated? Like I needed to rinse again. Gel is the only thing that doesn’t make my teeth or gums feel weird after. But yeah, some of those “budget” gels taste like cleaning supplies. I actually tried a watermelon kids’ gel in desperation once and honestly, it wasn’t the worst. Whitening stuff is a no from me too; sensitivity city.

I hear you on the whitening stuff—tried it once, and my teeth were zinging for days. I switched to gel years ago after my gums got sensitive, and honestly, it’s just easier on my mouth. The fruity kid flavors aren’t half bad either… kind of nostalgic, actually.

I totally get the nostalgia with the kid flavors—bubblegum brings me right back to school mornings. I used to go for the gritty pastes, but after some gum issues, gel just feels way gentler. Whitening stuff made my teeth ache too, not worth it for me.

Bubblegum toothpaste totally hits that childhood memory button, I get it. I’m with you on the gel—it’s just way easier on my gums, especially after I started having some recession issues. The whitening pastes always left my teeth feeling sensitive and weird, so I ditched them too. Honestly, comfort over “Hollywood white” any day. It’s kind of reassuring to know I’m not the only one who can’t do the gritty stuff anymore... sometimes I feel like I’m missing out, but my mouth is a lot happier now.
