"Guess moderation is key with these hacks..."

Definitely learned that the hard way myself. My daughter used to scrub her aligners with regular toothpaste every night, thinking it was keeping them extra clean. After a couple months, they turned cloudy and scratched up—basically ruined. We switched to a gentle clear soap and soft toothbrush, and it's been smooth sailing since. Toothpaste can be handy in a pinch, but yeah... moderation really is everything.

Interesting experience, hadn't thought toothpaste could damage aligners like that. I've been told by my dentist that toothpaste is usually too abrasive for aligners or retainers—something about micro-scratches causing bacteria buildup. Gentle soap seems safer, but now I'm curious... has anyone tried denture cleaner tablets? I've heard mixed opinions on those and wonder if they're effective or if they cause similar issues long-term.

I've actually been using denture cleaner tablets for my retainers about once a week for the past year. They're pretty budget-friendly, and I haven't noticed any issues yet. But I do make sure to rinse thoroughly afterward—I've heard leaving residue behind might cause problems. Still, your dentist's point about micro-scratches got me thinking... maybe I'll alternate with gentle soap more often just to be safe.

I've wondered about denture tablets too—seems logical they'd be safe since they're meant for oral appliances. But the micro-scratch thing does make sense... Have you noticed any cloudiness or roughness on your retainers after using them regularly?

I've used denture tablets for my retainers on and off for years, and honestly haven't noticed any real cloudiness or rough texture. But the dentist's comment about "micro-scratches" did make me pause... might mix in some gentle soap washes just to be cautious.
