Weirdly, after a couple months, I kinda stopped noticing them and even started liking the “metallic” look? I smiled in a group photo last week without worrying, which felt like a win. Did anyone else hit that point where you just owned it? Would love to hear how long it took for you to feel okay with your new smile.

Every time my braces start digging into my cheek, I do this little wax trick that helps a lot. First, I dry off the bracket with a tissue (otherwise the wax just slides right off, learned that the hard way). Then I roll a tiny ball of wax and squish it right onto the bracket, making sure it covers any sharp edges. Usually feels way better within a few minutes. Sometimes I even use a bit of salt water rinse after, which seems to calm things down faster. Anyone got a better method or maybe something less sticky?

Okay, so I just stumbled across this news story that totally made me cringe. Apparently, there's been this trend going around on TikTok and Instagram where teens are sharing "DIY hacks" to speed up their braces or straighten their teeth faster at home. One kid actually ended up losing teeth because they tried some weird rubber band trick they saw online. I mean, seriously?? Who even thinks that's a good idea?

I had braces a few years ago, and honestly, I remember how annoying they were. The tightening, the soreness, the endless list of foods you can't eat (goodbye popcorn and caramel apples, RIP). But even at my most desperate, I never would've tried something like that. My orthodontist was pretty clear about how careful you had to be, cleaning around brackets, flossing like crazy, using those tiny little brushes to get food out...ugh, the memories.

But this story really got me thinking—like, why are people willing to risk their teeth just to shave off a few months of treatment? Is it because braces are too expensive or take too long? Or is it just the pressure of social media, you know, wanting instant results and perfect selfies? I mean, braces are annoying, but losing teeth is way worse. And now I'm wondering if orthodontists need to do a better job explaining the risks or if parents need to watch their kids' online habits more closely.

Anyway, curious what you guys think about this. Would you ever consider shortcuts or hacks for your braces, or do you think people are just taking things way too far these days?

I've tried the little interdental brushes, floss threaders (ugh), and even a water flosser thingy my mom bought me. The water flosser is kinda fun but messy as heck, lol. Curious what everyone else prefers—quick poll:

What's your go-to braces cleaning method?

- Regular floss + threader
- Interdental brushes
- Water flosser
- Just toothbrush and hope for the best (no judgment, haha)

Feel free to share any weird or helpful tips you've picked up, too...I'm all ears.

Okay, picture this—you just got braces put on, and you're starving. You open the fridge, and suddenly every single thing in there looks like a potential torture device. Apples? Nope. Carrots? Forget it. Even that leftover pizza crust feels like a risky adventure. So, you settle for yogurt... again.

But then I thought, what if we made this into a story? Like imagine a character named Alex who just got braces and has to navigate an entire day of eating without causing dental chaos. Breakfast at grandma's house (think crunchy toast and bacon), lunch at school (pizza day, obviously), and dinner at their crush's family BBQ (corn on the cob nightmare). How would Alex creatively dodge these food traps or secretly modify meals without anyone noticing?

Maybe Alex carries around a secret toolkit of utensils or develops ninja-level stealth skills to discreetly remove problematic foods from their plate. Or maybe there's a braces-friendly underground snack exchange at school...

How would you continue Alex's braces-food survival saga?

Got my braces tightened again yesterday and, man, I forgot how much it sucks. Usually, I just pop a couple ibuprofen and tough it out, but this time my sister gave me this numbing gel stuff she swears by. It's like a minty gel you rub on your gums and it kinda numbs everything up for a bit. Honestly, it felt weird at first—like my mouth was half asleep—but after a few minutes, the ache was way less noticeable. Still not perfect, but definitely better than just painkillers alone.

I'm curious if anyone else has tried something similar or maybe found something even better? I'm open to anything at this point because these monthly tightenings are seriously killing my vibe, lol.
