"Saving money is great, but not when you're risking permanent damage."

Yeah, totally agree with you there. Teeth are one of those things you definitely don't want to mess around with. I looked into Invisalign myself a while back, and while it seemed convenient (and let's be honest—way less noticeable), the price tag was just too steep for me. Ended up going the dental school route like your friend did, and honestly, zero regrets. Sure, appointments took a little longer because students had to get everything double-checked by supervisors, but I actually appreciated the extra attention to detail.

The DIY braces trend is scary stuff though... I can't imagine risking something as permanent as my teeth just to save a few bucks. Plus, if something goes wrong, you're looking at even higher costs to fix the damage. Definitely not worth it in my book.

Yeah, dental schools are a solid option. I went that route myself years ago—saved a ton and got great care. Honestly, the DIY braces thing blows my mind... teeth aren't something you can just experiment with and hope for the best. Like you said:

"if something goes wrong, you're looking at even higher costs to fix the damage."

Exactly. Fixing botched dental work can cost way more than doing it right the first time. Better safe than sorry.

Dental schools are definitely a good alternative, but honestly, they're not always convenient for everyone. I tried it once and the wait times were pretty long... not ideal if you're juggling work or family. Still beats DIY braces though—can't imagine risking permanent damage like that.

Dental schools can be hit or miss, true, but honestly, the wait times aren't always that bad—it really depends on timing and location. I went to one a couple years back for a consultation, and yeah, it took a bit longer than a regular dentist, but the quality of care was surprisingly thorough. They caught an issue my regular dentist missed, probably because they're supervised and double-check everything.

But even if dental schools aren't your thing, there are still affordable options out there that don't involve risking your teeth with DIY hacks. Community health clinics often offer sliding-scale fees or payment plans, and some orthodontists have flexible financing options. DIY braces are never worth the gamble... the damage can be irreversible, and then you're stuck paying way more to fix the mess. Better to invest a little extra time or money upfront than deal with permanent damage later on.

Totally agree about dental schools—I've seen plenty of patients who've gotten excellent care there, especially for complex cases. One thing to keep in mind is that DIY braces don't just risk tooth loss, they can also permanently damage gums and jaw alignment. I've had patients come in after trying these hacks, and honestly, repairing the damage afterward is way more complicated (and expensive!) than proper orthodontics would've been in the first place. Better safe than sorry...
