Does anyone else worry about swallowing it? I keep second-guessing if that’s okay.
I used to freak out about accidentally swallowing the wax, but my ortho said it’s non-toxic and just passes through. Still feels weird though—like, am I eating my braces now? It’s never sat right with me, so I started using way less wax unless I really need it.
About interdental brushes, I was nervous too at first. The wires just look so fragile, right? But honestly, if you’re gentle, they make cleaning a lot easier. The first time I tried, I thought for sure I’d snap something, but nothing happened. Just don’t force it if it feels tight.
Funny thing is, the wax disappearing act always happens when I’m eating something sticky or hot. Maybe it’s just part of the whole braces adventure... Never a dull moment.
Swallowing the wax is one of those things I worried about too, especially the first few weeks. My ortho gave me the same spiel—“non-toxic, don’t worry”—but honestly, it still feels weird knowing I’ve probably eaten more wax than actual food some days. I keep thinking, is this stuff building up somewhere? But nope, just keeps on moving through, apparently.
Interdental brushes were another hurdle. The first time I tried one, I was convinced I’d either poke a hole in my gum or bend the wire into a pretzel. Turns out, they’re sturdier than they look. I just go slow and if it feels like I’m forcing it, I back off. Lost a couple to the sink drain though... RIP tiny brushes.
And yeah, the disappearing wax trick is real. Every time I eat soup or something sticky, the wax just vanishes like it’s part of a magic act. Honestly, adult braces are a wild ride—never thought I’d be discussing edible wax and miniature pipe cleaners at my age, but here we are.
- Swallowed wax is basically a food group for me now. At least it’s calorie-free, right?
- Interdental brushes: tiny but mighty. I bent one in half trying to jam it between two stubborn brackets... still worked somehow.
- Soup and wax just don’t mix. I gave up and started carrying extra wax in my bag—learned the hard way after a ramen disaster.
- Adult braces are humbling. Never thought I’d be fishing tiny brushes out of the sink at midnight, yet here we are.
That ramen + wax combo is brutal—been there, regretted everything. I started buying those big packs of wax online because the little ones from the ortho just disappear on me (and I’m not made of money). Interdental brushes are weirdly expensive too, but I found some off-brand ones at the dollar store that work fine... mostly. Sometimes I wonder if it’s worth all the fuss, but then I remember what I paid for these braces and just keep fishing stuff out of the sink.
Totally relate to the whole “is it worth it?” feeling—every time I’m scraping wax out of my lunch, I wonder if I’ve lost my mind. I started using silicone wax instead of the regular stuff and it’s been a game-changer for me, especially with hot foods. The cost adds up, but honestly, after what I paid for these brackets, I feel like I have to see it through. The off-brand brushes are hit or miss for me too... sometimes they work, sometimes they just bend in half. Still, seeing my teeth slowly move is weirdly satisfying.
