Been doing some research lately cause my dad's finally ready to ditch his dentures (he's been complaining about them forever, lol). Anyway, we've narrowed it down to either the full arch implants (like the All-on-4 type) or just getting a new set of traditional dentures. He's leaning towards implants cause he's tired of the slipping and messy adhesives, but he's also kinda nervous about the surgery and recovery. Plus, implants are obviously pricier.

Anyone here gone through either option or know someone who has? Curious about how satisfied people are long-term. Like, is the implant route really worth the extra cost and hassle? Or do dentures these days hold up pretty well? Would appreciate hearing some real-life experiences before we make a decision.

Totally get the nerves—been there myself. Honestly though, getting implants was one of my best decisions. Recovery wasn't too bad, and now eating feels normal again...worth every penny imo.

Did you have much swelling or bruising afterward? I'm considering implants too, but the thought of surgery makes me pretty anxious...just wondering how uncomfortable it really gets during recovery.

I had full arch implants done about two years ago, and honestly, the swelling wasn't as bad as I expected. Bruising was minimal for me, just a little yellowish around the jawline for a few days. The discomfort was manageable too—felt more pressure and soreness than actual pain. Ice packs and ibuprofen were my best friends those first couple days. Have you talked to your dentist about sedation options? I went with conscious sedation, and it eased my anxiety a lot...made the whole procedure feel like it flew by.

Glad to hear your recovery went smoothly! I'm still weighing options myself... sedation sounds reassuring. Did you find eating tricky at first, or was it manageable pretty quickly?
