Braces for buck teeth vs deep bite: did you know there’s a difference?

I totally relate to the elastics struggle—my first few days, I swear I spent more time fishing them out of my mouth than actually wearing them. But yeah, the mechanics really do shift depending on what’s being fixed. When my overbite was the focus, my wires had these crazy bends, but once we switched to working on my deep bite, the elastics placement changed and the wire was way less dramatic. It’s wild how subtle tweaks can make such a difference. Sometimes it felt like nothing was happening, but then suddenly my teeth would look totally different in photos from a month before.

I get what you mean about the subtle changes, but honestly, sometimes I felt like the adjustments were almost too subtle. My ortho kept saying “tiny movements add up,” but there were weeks where I couldn’t see or feel any difference, even in photos. Maybe it’s just my case, but I found the wire bends for my deep bite were actually more uncomfortable than when we were working on my overjet. It’s weird how everyone’s mouth reacts differently... I guess that’s why they say no two treatments are exactly alike.

Yeah, I totally get what you mean. I actually switched orthos halfway through because my first one kept saying the same thing—“small changes matter”—but it felt like nothing was happening for months. Deep bite tweaks were rough for me too, way more sore than fixing my overjet ever was. Guess our teeth have their own stubborn personalities...

Haha, totally relate to that. My front teeth were like, “nope, not moving today.” Deep bite adjustments made me feel like I’d chewed on a brick for days. It’s wild how different the pain is, depending on what’s getting fixed. Small changes really do add up, but man, they require patience I didn’t know I had.

Haha, teeth really do have a mind of their own. I swear, some molars are just born stubborn. Deep bite tweaks can be brutal—like, who knew moving teeth a millimeter could make your whole face ache? And yeah, the patience thing... nobody warns you how much of it you’ll need. I’ve seen folks breeze through fixing buck teeth but then totally struggle with deep bite stuff. It’s not always the “biggest” problem that hurts the most.
