That metallic taste is wild, right? I remember after my first adjustment, I kept checking if there was actually a coin stuck in my molars—nope, just my imagination running wild. Here’s what helped me: first, lots of water. Sounds basic, but it flushes things out a bit and made the taste less intense. Second, I’d chew on sugar-free gum (if your ortho says it’s okay) or suck on ice chips when it got really annoying.

Honestly, the taste faded pretty quick for me too. I think it’s your mouth just getting used to all the new pressure and metal moving around. Sometimes I get a weird almost “battery” flavor when they swap wires, but nothing that stuck around for long. If it lingers or gets worse, maybe mention it at your next checkup just in case—it’s probably nothing, but better safe than sorry.

And yeah, soup is basically braces comfort food. Chicken noodle saved me more than once...

That metallic taste totally threw me off too. I kept thinking maybe I was bleeding or something, but nope—just the braces doing their thing. I noticed it got worse when I drank coffee, weirdly enough. I found swishing with cold water helped a bit, but honestly, I’m still paranoid every time I get a new wire. The soup thing is so real—my go-to is tomato, but it stains the bands if I’m not careful...

That metallic taste is the worst—like, it’s not even a normal metal taste, it’s almost like you accidentally bit into a coin or something. I totally relate to the coffee thing, too. I swear, every time I have a cup after getting my wires changed, it tastes even weirder and makes my mouth feel all tingly. I actually started avoiding coffee the first few days after a tightening, just because I was so freaked out by the combo.

And the paranoia about bleeding? Same here. I’m always checking in the mirror just to make sure there’s nothing actually wrong, but it’s always just the braces. I get super anxious before every appointment, like, what if this time it hurts way more or my teeth feel loose? It’s never as bad as I think, but I still can’t shake the nerves.

The soup thing is real, but I learned the hard way that even chicken noodle can get stuck everywhere. Tomato’s my favorite, but I literally have to brush right after or my bands go from clear to orange in seconds. Why do they even make clear bands if they stain that easily...?

That metallic taste messes with me too—like, I can’t even describe it except to say it’s just... wrong. I remember thinking my mouth was broken the first time I had coffee after a tightening. It’s wild how much braces can affect the tiniest everyday things. The clear bands are a total joke, honestly. I switched to silver after my first round of neon-orange stains from spaghetti sauce. It’s frustrating, but at least silver hides it all.

My kiddo went through the same thing with the clear bands—looked great for about a day, then pasta night happened and suddenly it was like a highlighter exploded in her mouth. Switched to silver and never looked back. The metallic taste is weird, but I always tell her it’s temporary—just brush, rinse, and wait it out. It passes faster than you think.
