The headaches threw me, too, more than the tooth pain some weeks. It really is a weird adjustment period.

I’ve been thinking about that a lot, actually. The headaches are what caught me off guard, too—not just the tooth stuff. I kept wondering if it was just me, but honestly, I think it’s more about the tension in your whole jaw shifting than any single tooth hurting. I started tracking when the headaches hit, and they always lined up with the days after a tightening.

Bread is a funny one. For me, it was carrots. I thought “oh, they’re healthy, they’ll be fine,” and then instantly regretted it. I’m not convinced mashed potatoes are the answer, though. I tried switching to soft scrambled eggs and yogurt, and that seemed to help with the hunger and the soreness.

But here’s where I’m a bit skeptical: are we all just supposed to accept this level of discomfort? I actually went for a second opinion after my third tightening because the pain felt excessive. Turns out, my wires were a little too tight for my case. If the headaches or pain get worse, I’d push for a re-evaluation, not just tough it out. Sometimes I think orthodontists assume we’ll just deal with it, but I’m not buying that anymore.

I get where you’re coming from, but I actually think some discomfort is just part of the process—though yeah, there’s a line. I’ve had headaches after adjustments, but nothing unmanageable. Sometimes I wonder if we expect too much comfort from what’s basically moving bones around. Still, I’d agree that if it feels wrong, a second opinion doesn’t hurt.

Is it really normal to have headaches after every adjustment, though? I always worry it means something’s off. Last time, my jaw ached for days and I started thinking maybe they tightened too much. Does anyone else get nervous about nerve pain with this stuff?

I get where you’re coming from—after my first few tightenings, I had headaches and jaw aches too. It freaked me out at first, especially when the pain lingered for a couple days. From what my ortho said, mild headaches and soreness are pretty common since your teeth and jaw are shifting. But if the pain is severe or lasts more than a few days, have you checked in with your orthodontist? I was nervous about nerve pain too, but apparently that’s pretty rare unless there’s numbness or tingling. Did your ortho give you any tips for managing the soreness? I found that sticking to soft foods and using a warm compress helped a lot.
