I totally get what you mean about the sprays—they’re so pricey for just a tiny bottle, and honestly, I barely noticed any difference either. I’ve found that letting a mint dissolve slowly works way better, especially right before an adjustment. Sometimes I’ll even break a mint in half to make the pack last longer... not glamorous, but it helps. Plus, with braces, anything sticky is just asking for trouble. Mints seem like the safest bet for now.

- Breaking mints in half is underrated—my dentist would probably give me a gold star for that level of restraint.
- Letting them dissolve super slowly is definitely the pro move. I swear, if you just park it by your cheek and forget about it, it lasts forever... or at least feels like it.
- Sticky stuff + braces = chaos. You’re spot on there.
- I’ve also tried those weird little mouthwash tabs, but honestly, nothing beats an old-school mint for convenience and not getting stuck everywhere.
- Hang in there—your wallet (and your orthodontist) will thank you!

Breaking mints in half is basically my go-to now. Ever since I got braces, I’ve had to rethink every single thing I put in my mouth—like, even mints felt risky at first. I used to just crunch them up without thinking, but after that first emergency wire pop (thanks, sticky caramel), I’m way more careful. I agree, letting a mint dissolve slowly is actually kind of relaxing. I park it between my cheek and gum, and it’s almost like a mini meditation… unless I forget it’s there and accidentally bite down. That’s always a jump scare.

I tried those mouthwash tabs too, mostly because I thought they’d be less likely to get caught in my brackets, but honestly, they just don’t hit the same. The texture is weird, and half the time I end up with little bits stuck in places I didn’t even know existed in my mouth. Old-school mints are just easier, and I can ration them out if I’m careful.

One thing I started doing is keeping a little pillbox in my backpack with a few mints broken in half. That way, I’m not tempted to eat the whole pack, and it’s less likely I’ll end up with a mint graveyard in my braces. My orthodontist actually noticed at my last appointment that I had way less plaque, so I guess it’s working. I get what you mean about sticky stuff being chaos—one rogue gummy bear and it’s game over for the next hour.

It’s weird how much having braces changes your relationship with food (and mints, apparently). At least my wallet isn’t taking as much of a hit now that I’m not blowing through packs every week. Silver linings, I guess.
