How often do your kids actually need to see the dentist?

At the same time, obsessing every day just made me more stressed. I guess it’s about finding that balance between being proactive and not driving yourself nuts.

Yeah, totally feel you on that. I got a bit carried away tracking every little spot with my phone flashlight, lol. Do you think those fancy electric toothbrushes with timers actually make a difference for kids, or is it just marketing hype? My kiddo’s dentist swears by them, but I’m not sure if it’s overkill.

I used to think those toothbrushes were just another way to drain my wallet, but honestly, my youngest actually brushes longer with the timer—turns it into a game. That said, I don’t think they’re magic. Still gotta check for that sneaky toothpaste blob on the sink...

Man, those timers are sneaky genius. My kid’s obsessed with making it beep, but I still gotta do the “let me see your teeth” check after, ‘cause apparently brushing means chewing the bristles for 30 seconds and calling it a day. As for the dentist, we try for twice a year, but honestly, sometimes it’s more like “whenever I remember to schedule it.” Haven’t noticed any disasters yet, just the usual lecture about flossing.

That cracked me up—my grandkids do the same thing. Here’s how it went with my own kids: step 1, timer; step 2, “open up, let me see”; step 3, realize they missed half their teeth. Honestly, twice a year is the gold standard, but I’ve slipped and gone 9-10 months between visits and didn’t see any major fallout. The flossing lecture seems eternal, though... I still get it myself.

Right? My dentist could write a novel on the importance of flossing and I’d still zone out halfway through. As for visits, twice a year is what they say, but honestly, my youngest went almost a year between appointments once—no cavities, just a stern “try harder” from the hygienist. Not saying it’s ideal, but sometimes life happens and it’s not the end of the world.
