Ugh, I totally relate to the “couch through a doggy door” feeling with those brushes. I tried them too and ended up with sore gums and a lot of frustration. Honestly, sometimes I wonder if these wires are worth the hassle or if I should’ve just stuck to removable retainers. The guilt about plastic waste from threaders is real, but I get so nervous trying anything else—I’d rather waste some plastic than risk messing up my teeth even more. Still, I wish there was a better eco-friendly option that didn’t make me panic every time I floss.

Honestly, you’re not alone there. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all the “right” ways to clean around wires, but you’re doing your best and that counts. Sore gums are no fun, but sometimes it’s about finding what doesn’t make you dread flossing. If you ever want to try something new, go slow—no shame in sticking with what feels safest for now. Those between-the-teeth spots are tricky, but you’re putting in the effort and that really matters.

I totally get the plastic guilt, but honestly, I tried switching to those reusable silicone picks and just couldn’t get them between my wires without poking my gums. Ended up with sore spots and barely any cleaner teeth. Sometimes, sticking with what works is just less stressful (and cheaper in the long run if it saves you from dental bills).

I hear you on the frustration with reusable picks. I tried a few brands myself and honestly, they just didn’t play nice with my braces either—felt like I was wrestling a porcupine in my mouth. In the end, I went back to regular floss threaders. It’s not perfect for the environment, but my gums stopped hating me. Sometimes you’ve just gotta weigh your options and go with what keeps your teeth (and sanity) intact.

Honestly, you nailed it—sometimes you just have to pick your battles, right? Those reusable picks sound great in theory, but with braces, they can feel like medieval torture devices. I see a lot of patients try every gadget under the sun, only to end up back with the humble threader. It’s not the greenest option, sure, but if your gums are calmer and you’re actually able to floss, that’s a win in my book. Dental health is all about finding what actually works for you, not just what looks good on a shelf.
