Filling turned into root canal... is this common?

Man, I swear teeth just do what they want. I had a filling turn into a root canal a couple years back and I was so ticked off. Like, I’m brushing with the electric toothbrush, flossing (well, most nights), using the rinse... still ended up in the chair for hours. Dentist showed me the x-ray and said it was just “bad luck” too. Felt like a glitch in the matrix or something.

Honestly, it’s wild how techy we get with everything else—smart watches, tracking sleep, all that—but teeth? Still feels like rolling dice. And yeah, my wallet cried for weeks after that bill.

Guess there’s only so much you can control. I try not to stress about every little twinge now, but easier said than done when dental stuff is always lurking...

I hear you, but I kinda disagree on the tech part. Have you seen those 3D scanners they use now for crowns and veneers? Wild stuff. My dentist scanned my teeth with this wand thing and it felt straight out of Star Trek. But yeah, even with all the gadgets, sometimes your teeth just have their own plans. I swear mine wait until I’ve got something important coming up before they start acting up...

Yeah, the tech has come a long way—those digital scanners are pretty slick. But teeth can still be unpredictable, even with all the gadgets. Sometimes a filling looks straightforward, but decay can be deeper than it seems or the nerve just doesn’t cooperate. I’ve seen cases where things looked fine on X-rays, but pain kicked in later and a root canal was the only fix. It’s frustrating, but not uncommon.

Totally get where you're coming from—teeth really do have a mind of their own sometimes. I actually went in for what was supposed to be a simple filling last year, and a few weeks later, the tooth just started throbbing out of nowhere. Ended up needing a root canal too. It’s such a letdown when you think you’re in the clear and then bam, more work (and more bills). Even with all the cool tech, sometimes the deeper stuff just doesn’t show up until it’s too late. At least you’re not alone in this—seems like it happens to more people than you'd think.

Yeah, it’s actually more common than people think. Sometimes you get a filling and the nerve’s already too far gone, but it just doesn’t show up until later. Super annoying, especially when you’re hit with another bill you weren’t expecting. Hang in there—it’s not just you.
