A baby tooth feels newly loose after a small bump

If a child’s baby tooth seems a little more mobile after a minor bump, what changes would make you seek same-day dental advice rather than wait for the next appointment? I’d especially like to know how important it is if the tooth looks out of position or seems to interfere with the child’s bite.

Would bleeding, pain, or mobility that’s getting worse change the urgency? And does the advice differ for a baby tooth compared with a permanent tooth? I wouldn’t want to assume a loose baby tooth is harmless just because it will eventually fall out.

- If the tooth looks shifted or now affects the bite, I’d seek same-day dental advice rather than wait. A baby tooth still needs an assessment of its position and possible effects on the developing permanent tooth; the fact that it’ll eventually fall out doesn’t make a change in position harmless.
