Hypothetically, say you suddenly need a root canal (ugh, I know), and nobody you know has ever been to a specialist. How would you even begin to choose someone decent? Reviews, credentials, gut feeling...? I'm kinda lost here.

Totally get that feeling—been there myself. Reviews help, but honestly, I'd also check their experience level and maybe call the office to see how comfortable you feel talking to them... trust your instincts a bit too.
