Weirdest thing I learned—hydrogen peroxide is in a bunch of stain removers, even for teeth, and it’s the same stuff in hair bleach.

Hydrogen peroxide is wild, right? My kiddo had a reaction to a whitening toothpaste—turns out, it was the peroxide plus some “natural” oils. We switched to a super plain paste (literally just the basics, no mint, no extras) and the mouth ulcers stopped. I used to think fancy ingredients meant better, but now I double-check everything. It’s kind of amazing how sneaky sensitivities can be... and how much overlap there is between what goes on your head and what goes in your mouth.

I get what you mean about sensitivities, but honestly, I’ve used peroxide-based whitening stuff for years and never had an issue—maybe I’m just lucky? I do wonder if it’s the combo of ingredients that sets people off, not just the peroxide. Some of those “natural” oils can be surprisingly irritating too. Ever notice how “plain” pastes are harder to find, though? It’s like everything’s got a gimmick now...

Yeah, I’ve noticed that too—everything’s “whitening” or “charcoal” or “infused with coconut oil” these days. I used to be all about the plain pastes, but now I have to squint at ingredient lists just to find one without something weird in it. Funny thing is, I tried one of those “natural” toothpastes with tea tree oil once, thinking it’d be gentler while I had braces. Ended up with my gums tingling for hours, which totally freaked me out.

Honestly, even the peroxide stuff makes me nervous. My ortho warned me it could make my teeth more sensitive, especially with brackets on, so I’ve just avoided it altogether. Maybe I’m being overly cautious, but I’d rather not risk it—my teeth already feel like they’re on edge half the time with all this hardware.

You’re probably right about the combo of ingredients being the culprit for some people. It’s wild how something labeled “natural” can be just as irritating as the heavy-duty stuff. I kinda miss when toothpaste was just... toothpaste.

Same! I just want something that cleans my teeth without making my wallet cry or my mouth burn. Tried one of those fancy “detox” pastes once—felt like brushing with spicy sand. Back to the $1 basic stuff for me.

I totally get this. I spent way too long in the toothpaste aisle last week, stressing over all those “whitening” and “detox” labels. Ended up picking a baking soda one because it just seemed simple. My gums felt way less irritated after, honestly. Guess sometimes basic really is better...
