I get the appeal of slipcovers, but don’t they bunch up or slide around? I tried one and it drove me nuts.
Totally get this. The ones I’ve tried always seem to shift every time someone sits down, no matter how much I tuck them in. There are some with silicone grips or straps underneath, but honestly, unless you’re super meticulous, they still move. As for stains, most are just a barrier for light spills—if something soaks through, you’re still dealing with the original upholstery underneath. It’s less about deep protection and more about making cleanup easier (or at least less visible). For me, it’s a trade-off between fussing with the slipcover or risking the actual couch fabric... not sure which is worse.
Red wine and light couches... it’s like they have a magnetic attraction. I’ve had my fair share of slipcover battles too. Years ago, after a particularly lively family dinner (and maybe a little too much merlot), I thought I’d outsmart the stains with a fitted cover. Nope—every time someone sat down, it crept up like a sock sliding off your foot. I even tried those foam sticks you wedge into the creases, but they pop out eventually. At this point, I just keep a towel handy for emergencies and hope for the best. Maybe it’s just the price of loving both wine and pale furniture.
