What does a full-mouth scaling and root planing quote cover?
When a dental office quotes scaling and root planing, what’s the clearest way to tell whether the amount covers the full mouth or is priced per quadrant? I’d also like to understand which related services can appear as separate charges.
For comparing estimates, should I ask whether the periodontal exam, X-rays, and local anesthetic are included, and whether a follow-up evaluation or later periodontal maintenance visit is billed separately? Are there other differences in how offices itemize these services that can make two totals hard to compare?

A quote can also look lower because it covers only specified teeth, rather than every tooth the dentist recommends treating. Check the listed treatment scope, not just whether the fee is called “full mouth” or “per quadrant.”
