Do bridges ever actually feel “normal” in your mouth?

I totally get what you mean about the “click”—that weird sensation was the thing I dreaded most before getting my bridge, too. Honestly, for the first couple weeks, it did feel like there was something foreign in my mouth, but it wasn’t as bad as I’d built it up in my head. Did your dentist mention if you’ll need to adjust your bite at all? Mine had to tweak mine a bit and that helped a lot. The thought of a removable partial freaked me out way more too...I just wanted something fixed in place. Do you know if yours will be porcelain or metal-backed? That made a difference for me comfort-wise.

Funny, I actually had the opposite reaction—removable partials sounded less scary to me because at least you can take them out if they bug you. The idea of something permanently glued in my mouth made me super anxious. My dentist did talk about bite adjustment, but honestly, I’m still worried it’ll never feel 100% normal. Porcelain seems like it’d feel better, but I’ve heard metal-backed ones last longer? Wish there was a way to test-drive both before committing...

I get where you’re coming from, but honestly, I’d take something fixed over a removable any day—especially after seeing my kid struggle with a partial. She was always fiddling with it, and it got lost more than once. The bridge took a bit to get used to, sure, but after a few weeks, she barely noticed it. I think the permanence actually helped her stop worrying about it so much. Porcelain vs. metal-backed—yeah, the metal might last longer, but I’d pick comfort over a few extra years, especially for a younger person. If only there was a trial run, right?

Yeah, I totally get that—my dentist tried to sell me on a partial and I just pictured myself leaving it in a napkin at a restaurant or something. Fixed bridge felt weird at first, like my tongue had to re-learn its job, but after a month or so? Honestly, I kinda forgot it was there. My only regret is not picking the porcelain one sooner... metal-backed just felt colder somehow? Maybe that’s just me being dramatic. If only there was a test drive for teeth, right?

Honestly, I went through the same thing—my bridge felt like a speed bump for my tongue at first. I kept poking it, like, “Is this thing supposed to feel like a tiny shelf?” But after a couple weeks, my mouth just sort of gave up complaining and accepted it. I do get what you mean about the metal-backed ones... mine sometimes felt like I was chewing on a cold spoon. If I had a redo, I’d probably go all-porcelain too. But yeah, eventually it just blends in with the rest of your teeth.
