Do bridges ever actually feel “normal” in your mouth?

“I still hesitate before biting into anything with a hard edge, just in case. Cutting things up has become second nature now.”

Same here, honestly. It’s been almost a year with my bridge and I *still* don’t just chomp into apples or baguettes like I used to. My dentist was pretty much “give it time,” too—no fancy tips. I did notice that after a few months, my tongue stopped obsessing over it, but I don’t think it ever feels 100% like your own teeth again. Not uncomfortable, just… different. Maybe it’s just the new normal?

Yeah, it’s funny how your brain just knows something’s different, even if it’s not uncomfortable. I got a bridge myself after a cycling accident, and honestly, it took me a good six months before I stopped thinking about it every time I ate. I still cut up apples, too. I tell people it’s like breaking in a new pair of shoes—eventually you forget about them, but they never feel exactly like the old ones. Doesn’t mean you can’t get used to it, though.

That’s a good way to put it. I’ve had my bridge for almost a year and, honestly, I still notice it sometimes, especially when I eat something crunchy. It doesn’t hurt or anything, but there’s this awareness that wasn’t there before. Maybe it’s just one of those things you adapt to, but never totally ignore? I guess I was hoping it would eventually feel 100% natural, but maybe that’s not realistic.

I totally get what you mean. I’ve had mine for about six months and there’s still this weird awareness, especially with certain foods. It’s not painful but it’s just… different. Sometimes I worry I’m overthinking it, but maybe it’s just normal to always notice a little bit.

I keep wondering the same thing. Got my bridge about four months ago and it’s just… always there, you know? Like, I’m not in pain or anything, but every time I eat something crunchy or even just brush my teeth, I notice it. My dentist said I’d get used to it, but sometimes I feel like I’m hyper-aware of every little difference. Maybe some people just never totally forget it’s there? Or maybe it just takes longer for some of us.
