Do bridges ever actually feel “normal” in your mouth?

I still have moments where it just feels… off. Not painful or anything, but like my tongue keeps checking if it’s “really” there.

Totally relate to the tongue thing—it’s like my brain is running a constant “bridge check” in the background. I still chew slower on that side, just out of habit. It’s weird how all those little routines stick around, even when things are technically fine. The “new normal” is a good way to put it... not perfect, but definitely better than before.

That “bridge check” is so real. I remember after mine, my tongue just wouldn’t leave it alone for months. Even now, a year later, I catch myself testing it out sometimes—like my brain’s not fully convinced it belongs there. Chewing on that side felt weird at first too, but eventually I stopped thinking about it so much. It’s not 100% like natural teeth, but honestly, I barely notice it unless I focus. Guess our brains just adapt in their own time.

I totally get what you mean about your tongue constantly checking the bridge. I just got mine a couple months ago and honestly, it’s all I can think about sometimes. I keep worrying I’ll never get used to it, but hearing that you barely notice yours now is kinda reassuring. Chewing is still weird for me—like, I’m always hyper-aware of that side. Guess I just need to give it more time and stop overthinking every bite... easier said than done, though.

Yeah, I was super conscious of mine at first too—kept poking at it with my tongue, and chewing felt off for a while. For me, it took maybe three or four months before I stopped noticing it all the time. I still get the occasional weird bite, but honestly, most days I forget it’s even there. It’s definitely a process... took longer than I expected, but it did get better.

I totally relate to this. I was convinced mine would always feel “off”—I kept overthinking every bite for weeks. What helped me was eating softer foods at first and just giving myself time. It’s weird, but now I barely notice unless I really focus on it. Every once in a while, though, my bite still feels a bit different, especially if I’m tired or stressed out. Guess it’s just one of those things you eventually adapt to, even if it never feels 100% like your original tooth.
