- Totally get what you mean about PTFE floss.
- I’ve switched back and forth between the slippery stuff and the old-school string. The tape just feels like it glides right past everything sometimes, but my dentist also claims it’s working.
- My gums seemed a bit less “involved” with tape too... maybe it’s just nostalgia for the classic kind?
- Either way, I figure as long as I’m actually flossing, it’s better than nothing. Don’t sweat it too much.
I’m with you—sometimes the cheaper floss feels rougher, but honestly, as long as I’m using it every day, my dentist says that’s what matters. I’ve tried the dollar store stuff and it did the job. No need to overthink it... consistency seems to win.
I get what you mean about consistency mattering most, but I’ve had a few run-ins with the really cheap stuff that made me rethink it a bit. I wear braces, and the bargain floss sometimes shreds or gets stuck in my brackets—super annoying. I started using the store brand waxed kind instead, and it’s only a couple bucks more but way less hassle. For folks without braces, maybe the dollar floss is fine, but for me, spending just a little extra actually saves me time (and a lot of frustration).

Ugh, I totally get this. I tried one of those “value packs” once and ended up with what looked like a spiderweb tangled in my braces. Not my best look. The waxed stuff is a lifesaver for me too—slides right through and doesn’t leave me picking bits out for half an hour. I guess for some people the cheap stuff works, but with braces it’s just not worth the hassle.

Been there. I kept trying those dollar store floss packs thinking I’d save a few bucks, but they just kept shredding on me. I finally switched to the generic waxed kind from Target—still cheap, but way less hassle with my wires. Not perfect, but at least I’m not spending ages untangling floss every night. Sometimes “cheap” just isn’t worth the headache, you know?
