Cheap floss that actually works? My search for budget dental care

I’ve got braces now and honestly, finding floss that doesn’t shred or get stuck is a nightmare.

Ugh, I feel this so much. I just got my braces a couple months ago and the first time I tried to floss, I literally almost cried. The ribbon stuff everyone loves just slides right over all the gunk, like it’s avoiding the problem on purpose. I started using those super cheap threader things (the ones that look like fishing line) and, weirdly, they work better than fancy floss for me. Not perfect, but at least they don’t shred everywhere. I think it really is just trial and error... but don’t give up. It took me weeks to find something that didn’t make me panic every night.

That’s exactly what my dentist said too and I just nodded because I honestly have no clue what “tape-style” even means in real life. I tried those little floss picks once and ended up poking my gums so bad I got paranoid I’d done permanent damage… The dollar store waxed floss is all I’ve managed to use without feeling like I’m in a dental commercial gone wrong.

If that Dollar Tree waxed floss isn’t shredding or getting stuck, I’d keep buying it. Price matters a lot less than whether you’ll actually use it consistently, and it sounds like you found something that works better for your teeth than some pricier options.

For tight contacts, a waxed or tape-style floss can be easier to guide through without forcing it. The main thing is using light pressure rather than snapping it down into the gums. A cheap floss that holds together and feels comfortable is a better deal than a premium one you avoid using.
