I’ve got braces now and honestly, finding floss that doesn’t shred or get stuck is a nightmare.

Ugh, I feel this so much. I just got my braces a couple months ago and the first time I tried to floss, I literally almost cried. The ribbon stuff everyone loves just slides right over all the gunk, like it’s avoiding the problem on purpose. I started using those super cheap threader things (the ones that look like fishing line) and, weirdly, they work better than fancy floss for me. Not perfect, but at least they don’t shred everywhere. I think it really is just trial and error... but don’t give up. It took me weeks to find something that didn’t make me panic every night.

Yeah, the threaders are a lifesaver for me too. I tried a few of the pricier floss brands, but honestly, they all seemed to shred or get stuck way more often than the basic stuff. It’s frustrating how inconsistent it can be. I still have nights where I just want to give up, but I keep reminding myself it’s temporary... and my dentist swears it’ll be worth it. Hang in there—it does get a little easier once you find something that doesn’t make you dread brushing.

I totally get the frustration. I actually switched back to the cheap waxed floss from the dollar store after a few rounds with those fancy “gentle” ones. Weirdly enough, the cheap stuff slides through my tight teeth way better and doesn’t shred as much. I do have to double up sometimes if it breaks, but at least it doesn’t get stuck. My dentist keeps pushing me to try tape-style floss, but honestly, I don’t see much difference except the price tag. Maybe it’s just about finding what feels least annoying on any given night...

That’s exactly what my dentist said too and I just nodded because I honestly have no clue what “tape-style” even means in real life. I tried those little floss picks once and ended up poking my gums so bad I got paranoid I’d done permanent damage… The dollar store waxed floss is all I’ve managed to use without feeling like I’m in a dental commercial gone wrong.
