I totally get the struggle with silk floss—it’s kinda nerve-wracking when it shreds or gets stuck, especially if you’re new to all this. I keep worrying I’ll hurt my gums or miss spots. Has anyone actually found a brand of silk that’s less prone to breaking? Or maybe there’s a trick I haven’t figured out yet... I really want to stick with the eco stuff, but sometimes I just panic and grab the plastic one instead. Does anyone else feel guilty about that, or am I overthinking it?

Honestly, I’ve had the same trouble with silk floss, and after years of dental work, I’m not convinced it’s just the brand. Sometimes it’s about how tight your teeth are or if you’re dealing with old fillings—silk just can’t handle those spots for me. I wouldn’t feel guilty about grabbing plastic if it means you’re actually cleaning between your teeth. At this point, I figure good hygiene matters more than the perfect eco choice every single time.

Silk floss and I have a complicated relationship—sort of like me and kale. I want to love it, but it just doesn’t always work for me. I’ve snapped more than a few pieces trying to wiggle them between tight molars, then wound up with sore gums and a grumpy mood. Honestly, if plastic floss is what gets the job done without bloodshed, I say go for it. The planet will thank you for keeping your teeth healthy enough to keep eating veggies, right?

Totally get where you’re coming from. I’ve tried silk floss too, and it just shreds every time on my tight teeth—plus it’s not exactly cheap. I want to be eco-friendly, but if I’m honest, whatever keeps my gums from bleeding is what I’ll stick with. I did find some compostable corn-based floss that’s a bit sturdier, though it’s still pricier than the plastic stuff. Balancing cost, comfort, and the planet is tough... sometimes you just have to pick your battles.

I hear you, but I think there are some overlooked options if you’re willing to tinker a bit. PTFE floss (the “tape” kind) is super strong and glides easily between tight teeth—yeah, it’s not compostable, but you use so little material compared to other disposables. Plus, there are reusable floss picks out there now where you just replace the string. Not perfect, but maybe a decent compromise? I’ve been testing one for a few months and it’s holding up surprisingly well.
