Those stitches can look gnarly, huh? Here’s the deal: first couple days, swelling’s normal—think chipmunk chic. If there’s no nasty smell, funky color, or throbbing pain, you’re probably in the clear. Saltwater rinses help, but yeah, getting a kid to swish is like negotiating with a tiny lawyer. I always tell folks: soft foods, patience, and don’t poke at the stitches (tempting as it is). If anything starts looking weird or smelling off, then it’s worth a call. Otherwise, it usually settles down by week’s end.

Yeah, the swelling and weird look totally threw me off after my implant. I kept checking the stitches in the mirror, half-convinced something was going wrong. Saltwater rinses helped a bit, but honestly, I was paranoid about accidentally pulling a stitch when brushing. One thing I noticed—if I slept propped up for the first few nights, the swelling went down faster. Sticking to yogurt and mashed potatoes made life easier, too. I agree, unless there’s some nasty taste or pain, it’s usually just part of healing.

I totally get the paranoia about brushing near those stitches—felt like I was defusing a bomb every time I got near them. But, honestly, the saltwater rinses didn’t do much for me except make me crave chips. Maybe I’m just unlucky, but my swelling stuck around even though I slept with half my pillows stacked up. Eventually, I just gave up and let my face look like a lopsided balloon for a week.

As for food, yogurt’s great and all, but after two days I was desperate for something with crunch. Ended up microwaving frozen veggies to mush because I couldn’t stomach another spoonful of mashed potatoes... plus, it’s way cheaper than buying all those little pre-made cups of pudding and stuff.

One thing though—I did get some weird taste after a few days and freaked out, but turned out it was just a bit of old blood (gross, I know). If the pain stays mellow and you’re not getting that “uh-oh” infection vibe, you’re probably good. Still, stitches are weird—I swear mine poked me more than they held anything together.

That weird taste totally freaked me out too—my brain instantly went to “infection” even though it was just old blood. I swear, stitches are like tiny evil wires. I was so scared to brush near them, I barely touched that side for days. The swelling’s the worst part for me... I always look like a chipmunk on one side. Glad you got through it without any major drama.

That weird taste totally had me panicking too—my mind just jumps straight to “infection” every time. I’m always scared to brush near the stitches, honestly. The swelling is so annoying, I felt like I couldn’t eat or talk right for days. It’s nice hearing you got through it okay, though. Makes me feel a little less nervous about mine healing up.
