I’ve seen people get a little freaked out by that “off” feeling in the morning, but honestly, it’s usually just your jaw adjusting to the guard. I had a boil-and-bite one for a while and my bite felt weird sometimes, but it always settled back after breakfast. Actual tooth movement from a store-bought guard is rare unless it’s really ill-fitting or you’re wearing it nonstop. Headaches and soreness can just mean it’s not fitting quite right or maybe you’re clenching more than you think. If you do switch to a custom one, things usually even out pretty quickly—at least that’s what happened for me. The price stings, but I was way less anxious once I got the custom fit.

That “off” feeling in the morning definitely threw me at first, too. I remember waking up and thinking my teeth felt crooked, but like you said, it usually went away after eating or just moving around. I did end up switching to a custom guard because the store-bought one kept giving me headaches. It’s pricey, yeah, but I wonder if it’s actually preventing more damage in the long run? Did anyone else notice less jaw tension with the custom ones?

Honestly, I felt the same way about the cost at first but the custom one made a big difference for me. Store-bought guards just felt bulky and I’d wake up with my jaw super tense. The custom fit feels way less awkward and my jaw doesn’t ache anymore. Guess my wallet still hurts a little, but my teeth and jaw are happier, so it’s a trade-off I can live with.
