Haha, glad I'm not the only one guilty of the gym bag thing. Honestly, I've been using a generic mouthguard for about 6 months now, and it's already looking pretty rough. I'd love to try a custom one eventually, but they're pricey. Good to hear it might help with headaches though—maybe worth saving up for after all. I've never tried the denture tablet trick, that's actually pretty clever. Mine usually last around 6 months or so before they start looking sketchy... but yeah, headaches were a big issue for me too until I switched to a custom one. Totally agree it's worth it in the long run.

Hmm, mine's been going strong for almost a year now, but I do clean it pretty obsessively. Honestly, the denture tablet thing sounds smart, but I'm kinda nervous about chemicals... warm water and mild soap works fine for me.
