Scraping my tongue: is it worth splurging on a fancy one?

I’ve wondered about those copper ones too, but honestly, I’m on your side—my old stainless scraper does the trick. Consistency really seems to matter more than the material. Have you ever actually felt a difference when you tried a different type? I bought a plastic one once and it felt flimsy, so I went right back. As long as you’re gentle and it’s comfortable, why switch?

I’m with you on the plastic ones feeling kind of pointless—mine bent after, like, two uses. I don’t really get the hype around copper either. I’ve read people say it’s “antimicrobial,” but honestly, I just rinse my stainless one and it seems fine. Plus, those copper ones are way pricier for something that sits in the medicine cabinet most of the time.

What actually makes a difference for me is how often I use it. If I skip a few days, my mouth feels gross no matter what kind of scraper I have. But if I’m consistent, even my cheapo stainless one gets the job done. I guess maybe if you’re super into the aesthetics or want to avoid plastic, copper could make sense? Just not sure it’s worth double or triple the price.

Has anyone noticed if the shape matters more than the material? Mine has sort of rounded edges and doesn’t hurt at all, but I’ve seen some that look sharper or have weird ridges. Wondering if that actually helps or is just a gimmick.

Also… does anyone else just use a spoon in a pinch? Not glamorous, but it works when I forget to pack my scraper while traveling.

I’m curious about this too. Do the ones with ridges actually get more gunk off, or is it just marketing? Also, does anyone find their scraper gets dull over time, or am I imagining that?

I’ve actually tested a few different types out of curiosity—some with those pronounced ridges, some just smooth metal. In my experience, the ridged ones do seem to pick up more debris, but they can also feel a bit rough if I’m not careful. It’s not a huge difference, but enough that I notice when I switch back to a plain one.

Shape definitely matters too. The ones with really sharp edges can scrape a little too aggressively and leave my tongue sore, especially if I’m in a rush and press too hard. Rounded edges are way more forgiving.

About dullness—I’ve noticed with plastic scrapers, the edge can get kind of worn down after a while, so maybe you’re not imagining it. Metal ones don’t seem to change much over time for me. Has anyone else tried those copper scrapers? I keep seeing them recommended but haven’t made the leap yet...
